I'm maybe getting a bit ahead of myself here, but realistically, I'm thinking of next season having a bash in Sportsman ET.

Is there much of a turnout in this class?

I would plan on using the beemer I have been molesting. It's a road car and will quite probably be my daily, I am guessing it will run very low 14's possibly high 13's. Manual box, so I'd envisage a bit more skill required to do consistent times rather than just stabbing a mediocre powered auto off the line?

The way I see it, is that it is a progression from just turning up to do occasional RWYB. I don't have the spare cash to have a dedicated race car or the trailer and tow vehicle and expense that comes with that (her indoors would not be amused). Hopefully this gets me a bit more racing, puts a few extra quid in the club's coffers and may set me on the way to progressing up the ladder in time.

Hope to make it to the next meet at beginning of august to give the car a shakedown as I've just finished doing the mechanical stuff and am about to put some rent in the screen.

Cheers

Lee

Lee,
Have a look at the points table & you will see there are plenty of racers in Sportsman..

SPORTSMAN
George Chiles 1925
Lee Chiles 1775
Phil Davison 1775
Adam Proctor 1675
Richard Grainger 1675
Claire Johnson 1525
Nigel Preston 1475
Craig Perry 1275
Ian O'Connor 1200
Dave Downes 975
Howard Holmes 975
Al Platt 750
Craig Allen 725
Luke Maud 725
Chris Novak 700
Karl Kenyon 500
Jamie Hughes 475
Stuart Hodgson 450
Gene Billadeau 450
AC249 250
Dave Billadeau 225
James Murray 225
Mathew Davison 225
Peter 225
Richard Brashinski 225
Kara Chandler 225

Most of the cars are driven to & from the track, with very few "trailer queens"

Only 2 championship meetings left this year so you could still have a go, but no chance of winning the title ;)

Lee, I would say go for it! you can make a stick car consistant & competitive, Phil Davison has proved that this year driving his MX5.
If theres anything you need to know either ask on here or PM me & I'll be happy to help.
cheers, Dave.

Gee, thanks, Dave!!

Definitely go for it, Lee.
It's much more 'interesting' than just RWYBing and needs a little more skill, too! I've really enjoyed it.
Come and say hello if you make the next meet!

Your welcome Phil!, On another note, looking at the stats from the last meeting, out of 14 entrants the top 8 qualifiers were within a 10th of there dial-in!
Theres some tough racers in Sportsman!

Lee, go for it, you'll enjoy racing in a series A LOT more than RWYB, makes the whole week end much more fun and interesting. 8) 8)

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'll most likely wait until next year before I do it, need to give the car a shakedown first so it'll be RWYB for the first August meet. Also need an idea of what dial in I guess. May then do the bank hol meet in Sportsman just to get an idea of the crack
